Describe how serum tumor markers should be used (vs. how they should not be used)
Tumor markers may be used to monitor recurrence and response to therapy, BUT definitive dx is made via biopsy
-Tumor markers should NOT be used as the primary tool for cancer dx or screening

ALP is associated with:
- Metastases to bone or liver
- Paget disease of bone
- Seminoma (placental ALP)
Alpha-fetoprotein is associated with what types of cancer?
AFP is associated with:
- Hepatocellular carcinoma
- Hepatoblastoma
- Yolk sac (endodermal sinus) tumor
- Mixed germ cell tumor
B-hCG is associated with what types of cancer?

- Hydatidiform moles and choriocarcinomas (Gestational trophoblastic disease)
