Parts And Functions Flashcards
Corpus callosum
To connect and carry messages between the two brain hemispheres
Thalamus
Brain’s sensory control center; directs messages to the sensory receiving areas in the cortex and transmits replies to the cerebellum and medulla
Hypothalamus
Direct several maintenance activities, helps govern the endocrine system via the pituitary gland and linked to emotion and reward
Hippocampus
Helps process explicit memories for storage
Amygdala
Linked to emotion and fear-learning
Pituitary Gland
Endocrine system’s most influential gland; regulates growth and controls other endocrine glands
Medulla
Controls heartbeat and breathing
Cerebellum
Processing sensory input, coordinating movement output and balance, and enabling non-verbal learning and memory
Frontal Lobe
Involved in speaking and muscle movements and in making plans and judgments
Motor Strip
Controls muscle movement, voluntary movement, swallowing, and speech
Sensory Strip
Receives and sends messages of feeling from different parts of your body
Parietal Lobe
Receives sensory input for touch and body position
Occipital Lobe
Receives information from the visual field
Temporal Lobe
Includes the auditory areas, each receiving information primarily form the opposite ear
Broca’s Area
Controls language expression
