Macrophages and lymphocytes
Mast cells
Fibroblasts
What is the main function of subcutaneous tissue?
Absorb forces of trauma, protect tissues and vital organs below.
Describe vellus hair.
Short, fine, and lacking pigment
Describe terminal hair.
Coarser, thicker, and pigmented
Which layer of the skin is responsible for the pigmentation that protects our skin from harmful effects of the ultraviolet radiation?
Epidermis
Which layer of skin is directly below the epidermis?
Dermis
The upper layer of the dermis is the _________ layer
Papillary layer
Consisting of loose connective tissue, capillaries and nerves supplying the epidermis
The _________ layer of the deeper dermis
Reticular layer
Made up f strong connective tissue that integrates the dermis firmly with the subcutaneous layer below
Which skin layer holds the skin firmly around the body and permits the stretching and flexibility necessary for articulation?
Reticular layer
What does the dermis contain?
Blood vessels
Nerve endings
Glands
________ _________ produce sebum and secrete it directly into the surface of the skin into hair follicles
Sebaceous glands
