What does the cerebrum do ?
It’s the centre of conscious thought, personality, speech, motor control, and of visual, auditory and tactile( touch) perception.
What structure divides the cerebrum into right and left ?
The falx cerebri
What side of the cerebral hemisphere is considered the dominant side ?
The left in most of the population
What’s the cerebellums role and where’s it located?
It plays an important role in the fine control of voluntary muscular movement. It is located dorsally to the pons and medulla oblongata.
Can you name what the hypothalamus controls ?
Endocrine function, the vomiting reflex, hunger, thirst, kidney function, body temp and emotions
What are the 3 big centres of the medulla oblongata?
The respiratory centre, the cardiac center, and the vasomotor centre
How long does the brain have if it’s blood supply stops ?
Within 4-6 minutes
Can you define the circle of Willis?
This is where the internal carotid and the basilar arteries interconnect
Explain how capillaries in the brain are different than else where in the body ?
The walls are thicker and not as permeable. They do not permit the interstitial flow of proteins and other materials as freely as the other capillaries in the body
Can you name all the face bones ?
The zygomatic, maxilla, mandible and nasal bones
What does the equilibrium do ?
It’s responsible for sensing position and motion
What is the liquid that fills the posterior chamber of the eye called ?
Vitreous humor
Where does the lacrimal fluid drain into ?
The nose
What do the carotid bodies and carotid sinuses do ?
They are responsible for monitoring carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the blood and blood pressure
Describe the pulmonary hilum ?
It is the central medial region of the lung where the bronchi and the pulmonary vasculature enter the lung
