Parietal Lobe Flashcards
What is the function of the parietal lobe?
It receives & processes sensory information from the body and skin cells. It also has some role in spatial awareness and attention
Where is the parietal lobe located?
It is located behind the frontal lobe and occupies the upper back half of the brain
What happens when the parietal lobe is damaged?
It can result in deficit of function in lack of sensitivity.
What is tactile agnosia?
It is a disorder where an inability to interpret sensation causes deficit in recognizing objects.
Where is the somatosensory cortex located?
At the front of the parietal lobe, just behind the primary motor cortex
What sensory information does the somatosensory cortex receive?
Touch, pressure & temperature of skin, information about muscle movement and the position of limbs
