Frontal lobe Flashcards
What is the function of the frontal lobe?
It controls higher order thinking (e.g. problem solving, planning, decision making). It also controls motor coordination, expression & regulation of emotions, personality, language, consequential thinking and integrates messages from all over the brain & coordinates appropriate responses. The frontal lobe can be seen as the boss of the brain.
Where is the frontal lobe located?
At the front of the brain (behind the forehead)
What is the function of the primary motor cortex?
It controls voluntary bodily movements through its control of skeletal muscles.
✭different areas control movement in certain areas of the body
What is Broca’s area?
Broca’s area is located in the left frontal lobe next to the primary motor cortex and enables articulate and fluent speech production
What happens when Broca’s area is damaged? (Broca’s Aphasia)
Depending on the severity of the damage, speech maybe simple, slower, less fluent and lack cohesion. However, someone with Broca’s aphasia can still understand the meaning of language.
