1
Q

what are photosynthetic organisms

A

-main producers of food
-things like algae and green plants use energy from the sun to make food (glucose)
-this store of glucose adds to its biomass

2
Q

where does photosynthesis occur

A

inside the chloroplasts-contain chlorophyll which absorbs light. Energy is then transferred to the chloroplasts by light

3
Q

what type of reaction is photosynthesis

A

endothermic as it absorbs energy (light energy to react with carbon dioxide and
water produces glucose and oxygen

Q

how does light become a limiting factor

A

light is directly proportional to the rate.
When you increase the level of light, plants will photosynthesize more. But, if you have too much light, then the other 2 ingredients become limiting and photosynthesis can no longer increase with the level of light.

6
Q

how is the rate of photosynthesis inversely proportional to the distance and light intensity

A

distance from lamp and light are inverse proportionate=if the distance increases, light intensity decreases

Q

what is the inverse square law

A

if you halve the distance, the light intensity will be four times greater. If you double the distance, the light will be four times smaller
1 divided by distance squared

8
Q

how can carbon be a limiting factor

A

if there is too little carbon it slows the rate down. Increasing Co2 increases the rate to a certain point. If you have too much CO2 then the other two factors become limiting as there isn’t enough

Q

how can temperature be a limiting factor

A

usually, if the temperature is too low the enzymes work more slowly. If its too much it will denature
