A

Most immigrants were proud of their cultures and customs and didn’t want to forget them. This sometimes caused tension with white Americans and more established immigrants who didn’t want immigrants coming to the USA.

A

Literacy tests were introduced in 1917. Immigrants that didn’t pass couldn’t enter America, this was a problem because the poorer immigrants from eastern Europe had received no education and so failed the tests.
