page 4 (chapter 1) Flashcards
what is true experiment
controlled settings (in a lab, test subjects chosen)
randomly assigned groups
all participants measured and same outcome variable
what is the general census of a true experiment
is casual conclusions and less generalizable
what is the criteria for a true experiments
1 control group and 1+ experimental group
must be a variable controlled by researcher
groups must be randomly assigned
what is the quasi experiment
conducted in work field/natural settings
randomly selected from existing groups
participants measured on same variable
what is the general census of a quasi experiment
is more generalizable and doesn’t give a casual conclusion
what is survey research
surveys/questionnaires intended to measure each variable are administrated to participants
no distinction between IV and DV
what does a survey research tell you
determines whether a relationship exists based on scores of the survey (correlation)
what does a positive and negative correlation look like
positive slope and negative slope
what are the 3 categories of correlation
weak = > 0.1
moderate = > 0.3
strong = > 0.5
what is spurious
two variables appear related but a third variable is in play
