page 2 (chapter 5) Flashcards
what is selection testing validity
a test must show all 4 types of validity to be considered valid
what is convergent validity
results from test correlate positively with results from similar tests
give an example of convergent validity
ex. self-worth gets positive relation on test to self esteem
what is discriminant validity
results from last test do not correlate with results from dissimilar tests
give an example of discriminant validity
ex. self-esteem has no connection to intelligence test, we don’t want it to be related
what is criterion related validity
extent to which a selection tool predicts or significantly correlates with important elements of work behavior (must demonstrate both)
what is concurrent criterion related validity
degree to which test scores are related and current performance
give an example of concurrent criterion related validity
ex. give out an empathy test and examine current teamwork skills and studies have shown that these two are closely related, so for the test to be concurrent the two scores need to be close
what is predictive criterion related validity
degree to which test scores are related to future performance
what is an example of criterion related validity
ex. give out the test to a future employee, then months later when they work examine their teamwork skills and their scores must be correlated
what is differential validity
confirmation selection tools work for minorities
what is face validity
degree to which a test is subjectively viewed as measuring what it is supposed to measure
what is the weakest type of validity
face validity as it is based on subjective opinions
what is an example of face validity
ex. applicants for a cashier job are required to complete a math test requiring them to add, subtract, multiply and divide, if these test takers don’t see the point in the test relating to the job it doesn’t have face validity
