Paediatric Assessment 2 Flashcards
Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test
Child copies each of nine designs. Test is untimed, but takes roughly five minutes. Too fast may indicate impulsivity and too slow may indicate a deficit.
Koppitz Developmental Bender Scoring System
Scoring system for the Bender Test. Errors are classified into four categories (distortion of shape, rotation of shape, integration and perseveration). Good reliability but poor validity. Good method to put child at ease before harder tests.
Auditory Discrimination Test
Measure of the child’s ability to discriminate phonemes. Administrator accent is a confound (need perfect diction). Reasonable reliability and validity.
Lindamood Auditory Conceptualisation Test
Measures children’s ability to discriminate sounds and determine how many sounds have been said. Uses blocks rather than verbal responses. Good reliability and validity but also requires perfect diction from examiner.
Adaptive Behaviour
A behaviour that meets the natural and social demands of one’s environment and indicates the degree to which an individual can function independently.
Adaptive Behaviour Scale
Used for intellectually disabled, emotionally maladjusted and developmentally delayed individuals in institutions. Considers behavioural and affective domains that are appropriate for the individual’s developmental age.
Psychometrics of ABS
Good standardisation and inter-rater reliability for behavioural domain. Sensitive to changes that result from therapy, but questionable construct validity.
Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scale-II
Assesses social competence of individuals from birth to 95 years. Adaptive behaviour is measured in terms of communication, daily living skills, socialisation and motor skills. Three forms (extended, survey and school).
Psychometrics of VABS-II
Split-half reliability is good for extended and survey versions. Poor correlations with IQ tests.
Child Behaviour Checklist
A list of behavioural problems and competencies that the primary caregiver rates on a three point scale. Two versions, one for ages 2 to 3 and one for ages 4 to 16.
Connor’s Parent Rating Scale
Used to identify behavioural problems in children. Parent’s rate the child’s behaviour.
