CHC and Development Flashcards
CHC Model
Hierarchical model with “g” at the top (stratum III), 16 broad abilities in the middle (stratum II) and 74 narrow abilities (stratum I) at the bottom.
Alfred Binet
Tasked with identifying children who needed special education. Developed a test using 30 everyday tasks, organised into 3 month age bands that could be used to establish mental age.
Later Revisions of Binet’s Test
Introduced the notion of mental level (1908), however this was used to calculate a score comparing mental age and chronological age (later became the IQ score).
Goddard
Translate the French Binet test into English and used it to diagnose and separate “feebleminded” children. Also used it to assess immigrants and concluded that immigrants are below average intelligence.
Terman
Developed the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, which began the ability to conduct mass testing (eg Army Tests)
Developmental Approach to Intelligence
Piaget’s Theory (four stages). Piaget believed that nature results in the physical structures that allow individuals to transmit and engage with information.
