King George 3 was involved in military conflict and Shelly hated this and felt like someone needed to overthrow it.
-He was influenced by King George to write this poem and the french revolution

What does “boundless and bare” suggest?
- unlimited-sand/horizon seems to have no ending emphasizes the link to the non existent kingdom
- alliteration to emphasize emptiness
What does the theme of power show?
those with power are deluded in their belief that their power is supreme.
Because they were powerful in the world they think the power will never go. Might and power of leader will never last but the statue will
What is the structure of the poet?
Sonnet form 14 lines first 8 (octave|)-pose a problem] Last 6 lines (sestet)solves the problem Line 9 (Volta) sharp turn which brings about the move of resolution
How is irony shown?
Ozymandias was so powerful and he was meant to live but he didn’t as his stature was falling apart showing his power is torn
“MOCKED”-to create/make something or the artist was mocking him which means the artist was above the pharaoh as Ozymandias didn’t recognise that

Why does the poet use iambic pentameter?
It sounds like natural speech
up and down rhyme represents the loneliness, emptiness,passing of time
How is the theme of morality and death shown?
beat sounds like a clock ticking the dessert symbolises time passing nothing is left of Ozymandias no one would know who he is the only reason they would know is because of “my name is Ozymandias king of king”
How is pride shown in the poem?
vast size of statue reflects the rulers pride
futility of pride is demonstrated by the ruin of the statue
“ozium” means air in Greek
“mandate” means rule= “ruler of nothing” he didn’t achieve anything in his reign
How is the theme of art shown?
only things that lasts is part of the statue and the powerful words on the inscription.
What does “antique” suggest?
adjective
land is antique it has a high value
at the end its just “lone and levels sand”so the kingdom of Ozymandias is actually non existent
What does “trunkless” suggest?
metaphorical shows Ozymandias as a tyrant and a dictator
the trunk is the foundation of a tree and his statue is missing that reflects his heart is missing this is shown by the
“COLD COMMAND”-alliteration repetition aggressive sound “c” reflects the harsh nature of Ozymandias
What does “stamped and lifeless|” suggest?
originally mean to crush-metaphorically Ozymandias stamps on his people and he “mocked them”
OR have a strong or permeant influence on his people so now they are “lifeless”
