- Known hypersensitivity
- Oxytocin allergy

- Shock, tachycardia, dysrhythmias
- Anaphylaxis
- Nausea and vomiting
- if used prior to delivery, can cause uterine rupture, uterine spasm, lacerations, and fetal damage
- Clotting disorders, electrolyte disturbances
