What is the procedure to test the O2 system during the preflight?

A

Check Oxygen Guage on FOs Panel and see if its reading 1600 to 1800 psi (Normal Pressure)
Check that the Green blowout disc is in place (it means if it is not there the systems pressure has exceeded 2500psi)
Take the crew mask out of it holder and squeeze the red tabs ensuring oxygen flows and the head bands expand.

With the O2 in NORMAL when will the masks deploy?

A

13500ft +/- 600ft.
(Delivered at 70psi)

When you are in EMERGENCY will the cabin masks deploy?

A

No.
Why? Because they require normal DC power for the system to work. So manual dropping of the masks is required.

How do the oxygen mask operate in Manual Mode?

A

The are Cable Driven
When you drop the mask manually you turn the switch to Manual, a cable linkage then opens a valve to release air pressure from the O2 tank to open doors and masks to drop.

How do you stow the masks into their containers in the overhead once they have been deployed?

A

Replace the pins, carefully fold the mask and replace it into the overhead compartment and close the doors by pressing them back into place.

Must you depressurize the PAX oxygen system before stowing the masks?

A

YES, Oxygen pressure slowly leaks out through a bleed orifice allowing the doors to retract. Or you will have to pick one mask and there is a pin, stick something in the mask to press the pin to evacuate the oxygen pressure from the Pax O2 system. Then stow in the overhead containers.

What would you do if you had Smoke in the Cockpit?

A
  1. Don Oxygen Mask (emergency)
  2. Oxygen Microphone switch’s - As required
  3. Cabin (overhead fans) - OFF
  4. Defog Fans - OFF
  5. Pressurisation Source Selector - ISOLATE SOURCE - by selecting LH, if smoke continues
  6. Pressurisation Source Selector - RH (allow time for smoke to dissipate)

If smoke still continues
7. Pressurise Source Selector —- Emergency (and control cabin pressure with LH Throttle

How would you brief the passengers if you had Smoke in the Cabin?

A

Id simple tell them to remain calm that the crew is dealing with the issue and when I drop the oxygen masks please place them over your nose and mouth and breath normally. Then I would tell them I will get back to them when it is safe to remove the mask and any other information that I thought they may need to know.
