Oxygen Flashcards
What does the oxygen system consist of ?
- cockpit-fixed oxygen system
- cabin-fixed oxygen system
- portable oxygen system
Who does supply the cockpit-fixed oxygen system ?
It supplies breathing oxygen to the cockpit occupants in case of smoke or depressurisation
Who does supply the cabin-fixed oxygen system ?
It supplies oxygen to the cabin occupants (crew and pax) in case of depressurisation
Who does supply the portable oxygen system ?
It supplies both cockpit and cabin occupants and to be used as a protection for crew during on board emergencies or for FIRST AID purposes
What is the purpose of the pressure regulator ?
Directly attached to the oxygen bottle, the pressure regulator converts bottled high pressure oxygen to low pressure oxygen suitable for crew
What is the purpose of the safety relief valve ?
It limits the pressure delivered to the crew
What is the maximum capacity of the flight crew oxygen bottle ?
1850 PSI
How many masks are there in the flight deck ?
3 (4 in option)
What is the maximum pressure in the oxygen bottle before the frangible disk discharges the content overboard ?
2500 PSI
What happens when there is on overpressure in the system ?
A frangible disk located upstream of the pressure regulator discharges the content of the bottle overboard via on overboard vent and through a green blowout disc, located underneath captain’s window.
What is the purpose of the green disk visible outside ?
To check if there is any issue, overpressure or bottle discharged in the oxygen system
What is the purpose of the emergency selector on the mask ?
It creates an overpressure in the mask, which eliminates condensation in the mask, and prevents smoke, smells or ashes from entering the mask
At what cabin pressure altitude is the overpressure automatically started in the mask ?
30 000 ft
What are the 2 positions on the mask ?
NORMAL and 100%
What is the NORMAL position on the mask ?
Pilots breathe a mixture of oxygen and cabin air.
Mixture change with altitude. The higher the cabin, the more oxygen the mask provides.
What is the 100% on the mask ?
The mask delivers 100% of oxygen, regardless of altitude
When is the oxygen pressure displayed in green on the ECAM ?
When pressure > 800 PSI ( > 500 PSI for NEO)
When does the oxygen pressure pulse in green on the ECAM ?
When pressure < 800 PSI ( < 500 PSI for NEO)
When is the oxygen pressure displayed in amber on the ECAM ?
When pressure < 400 PSI ( < 200 PSI for NEO)
What does an amber half box on the oxygen pressure on the ECAM ?
When pressure < 1500 PSI ( < 800 PSI for NEO)
When is the REGUL LO PR displayed in amber on the ECAM ?
When pressure in the LP circuit is low (50 PSI)
When is the CKPT OXY displayed in amber on the ECAM ?
- When pressure < 400 PSI ( < 200 PSI for NEO)
- Low oxygen pressure is detected
- The CREW SUPPLY pb is OFF
Does the cabin oxygen system protect from inhaling smoke or sustaining high altitude ?
NO
How is produced oxygen in the cabin ?
It is produced through chemical generators above the passengers seats, lavatories and galleys.H
How long can the cabin system provide oxygen ?
15 minutes
At what altitude do the masks latch ?
Cabin pressure altitude of 14 000 ft
What is the use of the MAK MAN ON pb ?
To override the automatic system.
It does NOT activate oxygen flow. Passengers must pull the mask to start the flow.
What is the particularity of the chemical reaction ?
It creates heat and as a result, it can emit burning smell.
This is normal !
How long can the portable oxygen system provide oxygen ?
15 minutes
