Oxidative-N-Dealkylation Flashcards
1
Q
What happens in this reaction?
A
An alkyl group (CH2, CH2CH3 etc) that is attached to a N is lost, and normally replaced by a H
2
Q
What does the ‘oxidative’ represent?
A
There is an intermediate forming with an OH, that is then oxidised to form C=O with the NH formed essentially as a bi-product of this reacyion. (look at notes for diagram). Oxidation: gain of oxygen. But the oxygen is quickly lost again.
3
Q
What enzymes are involved?
A
CYP enzymes
4
Q
Give an example of a drug that is metabolised this way
A
Diazepam (pro-drug) is metabolised this way to form the active drug
