inhibit the digestion of bone by encouraging osteoclasts to undergo apoptosis
-doesn’t make the bone healthier
-denser not stronger
Type 1 osteoporosis
Post-menopausal
-15 years after menopause
-40% of women

-affects most women and men after age 70
-after 60, 90% of fractures are associated with OP
4 most common OP fracture sites are
-proximal humerus
-spinal compression

Not eating enough for the amount of activity
-low body fat
-low estrogen (amenorrhea and osteoporosis)
