kinematics Flashcards
kinematics
the form, pattern, or sequencing of movement with respect to time
-things to can see on film
Variables:
-Distance, displacement
-speed, velocity
-acceleration
-step length, width
-times that events occur
linear kinematics
distance vs displacement
-distance=length of path traveled (scalar)
-displacement (d)= final change in position from starting to ending point (vector)
speed
how fast an object is moving, nothing about the direction of movement (scalar)
distance/time
(m/s) (miles/Hr)
pace
reciprocal of speed
-time/distance
velocity (magnitude and direction)
involves direction as well as speed
-sign on velocity tells direction they are going
-displacement/ change in time
acceleration (m/s^2)
the rate of change of velocity
-can be positive or negative
change in velocity/change in time
if you are speeding up in the negative direction you have
negative acceleration
