Bone mineral density is tested using a dexa scan

A

Lifestyle changes

vitamin D + calcium given to patients

First line - Bisphosphonates

M: Myeloma

What is pathophysiology of osteoporosis?

A

When osteoclasts break down bone more than osteoblast can form bone causing pores in bone + decreasing density

There will be:
- thining of cortical bone
- widening of haversian canals
- Decrease number of trabeculae
