1- Direct Trauma
2- 2nd to contiguous spread from neighbouring infected tissue
3- Hematogenous spread (infection elsewhere)
4- Contamination of prosthesis
5- 2nd to vascular insufficiency eg diabetes
6- Post-operative surgical wound.

Symptoms
- Acute of slow
- Pain and fever
- Tenderness

Treatment for osteopmyelitis?

• Antibiotic therapy (6 weeks)
• Debridement
