What is gangrene ?
A
- Death and decay of part of the body due to deficiency or cessation of blood suppy.
- Common after extensive skin and soft tissue injury eg open fractures, surgery, burns, and trauma.

What is Dry gangrene ?
A
- (NON-INFECTIVE)
- Due to ISCHAEMIA eg reduced blood flow
- Diabetes, raynuads, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease.

What is wet/most gangrene ?
A
- Infective
– Swelling and blistering/ wet. - Acute onset
- Fever
- Swelling, pain, blistering, pus
- Smelly discharge
- Crackling noises when you press on affected area
- A line between healthy and damages skin

What is GAS gangrene
A
- (INFECTIVE) – Extensive tissue gas formation (BUBBLES) non ordorous. Has ulcerations.
- Tachycardia
- Low-grade fever
- Swelling and oedema
- Serosanguineous exudate
- Skin bronze to blue black
- BLems and haemorrhagic bullae
- Hypotension and renal failure in late stages.
