risk factors for osteocarcinoma
-possible genetic predisposition
-occurs slightly more often in males
-issues related to bone growth

-Mets
-recurrence
what are you expecting for in joint?
-symmetry
-swelling/redness
what are you palpating for?
-tenderness
-warmth
-ROM
Nursing assessment of osteocarcinoma
-Health hx: when pain, limp, or limitation of motion was first noticed
-dull pain may be present for several months, eventually progressing to limp or gait changes
-inspect affected limb for erythema and swelling
-palpate affected area for warmth and tenderness and to determine size of soft tissue mass, if also present
-monitor for metastasis
lab tests for osteocarcinoma
-elevated ESR
treatment of osteosarcoma
-surgical removal of tumor (prefer limb-sparing surgery)
-chemotherapy
