-transient period of rapid cycling mood symptoms that usually occurs in the first 10 days after delivery (emotional liability)
symptoms of baby blues
-mild depressive symptoms: anxiety irritability, mood swings, tearfulness, increased sensitivity, difficulty thinking clearly, fatigue
manifestations of baby blues
-anorexia
-tearfulness
-difficulty sleeping and sadness
when do baby blue usually resolve?

-restlessness

is postpartum psychosis emergent?
yes
when does postpartum psychosis generally become evident?
as early as 48 hours after birth or by 3 months
what can postpartum psychosis lead to?
suicide or infanticide
risk factors of postpartum psychosis
-personal or family history of major psychiatric illness
-previous episode of postpartum psychosis
signs/symptoms of postpartum psychosis
-starts as depression but leads into following symptoms
-mood lability
-delusional beliefs
-hallucinations
-disorganized thinking
-delirium
-bizarre behavior
-mania
-thoughts of hurting self or baby
