Ossification Flashcards
1
Q
What is messenchyme?
A
They are cells that can BECOME??? other cells ?????
2
Q
What happens in ossification?
A
2 things
3
Q
What happens in intramembranous ossification ?
A
Messenchyme turns into osteoblasts which then produce ostioid which is the matrix before mineralization. The woven bone and periosteum form lamellar bone: which makes compact and spongy bone
4
Q
What happens in endochondral ossification?
A
- The fetal hyaline cartilage develops
- cartilage calcifies and peristas bone collar forms
- primary ossification center form in the epiphysis
- bone replaces cartilage, except the articular cartilage and epiphyseal plates
- epiphyseal plates ossify and form epiphyseal lines
5
Q
Epiphyseal plate morphology
A
The epiphyseal plate is a layer of hyaline cartilage at the boundary of the epiphysis and diaphysis
