Devolution
national health service
NHS established in England and wales 5 July 1948 - national health service Act 1946
1969, legislation was to welsh NHS from english NHS»_space; welsh office
devolved since 1 July 1999
Responsibilities of the devolved authorities include:
- organisational control and funding of NHS systems
- family planning
- provision of health services
- prevention, treatment and alleviation of disease, illness, injury, disability and mental disorder

2006 - applies to England
NHS bodies must co-operate with each other in exercising their functions
NHS bodies and local authorities must co-operate with one another in order to secure and advance health and welfare > people of england and wales
Wales
National Health Service (Wales) Act 2006
Welsh ministers must promote an effective, efficient and economical provision of services
It allows Welsh ministers to give directions to NHS bodies on the way in which they are established.

Shared Service Provision and Pharmacy in Wales
Primary Care Services
Division of the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership.
Responsible for reimbursement services to pharmacies, GPs and appliance contractors for the medicines and devices they provide on NHS prescriptions.
Additionally, they are responsible for the provision of prescribing and dispensing information to NHS staff delivering medicines management services.

Special Health Authority with a leading role in the education, training, development and shaping of the healthcare workforce in Wales.

The status of CPW as a negotiating body for Welsh pharmacy owners was legally established in April 2004
Wales has adopted a community pharmacy contractual framework that is similar to that in England, particularly with regard to essential, advanced and enhanced service levels.
fees and some services, diverge from those in England:
Wales no longer charges for NHS prescriptions
Wales has not adopted either LPS or NMS
Wales has a discharge medicine review service but England does not.
