Ophthalmology Flashcards
It occurs when the force that holds the retinal attachment fails resulting in accumulation of fluid in subretinal spaces.
Retinal Detachment
What are the F4 of Retinal Detachment?
Floaters
Flashes
Fall in acuity
Field loss
Ophthalmoscopy finding in retinal detachment
Grey, opaque, wrinkled retina that balloons forward
Treatment options for retinal detachment
- Lean patient’s head back - promotes the chance that the retina will fall back into place
- mechanical reattachment
- Scleral buckling
Medical treatment for AACG
Beta blocker - Timolol (cautioned in asthma)
Pilocarpine 1-2%
Steroids - prednisolone 15 q15mins x 1 hour
Acetazolamide IV
Medical condition associated with optic neuritis
Multiple sclerosis
Medical condition asssociated with scleritis, KJS, episcleritis and steroid-induced cataract
Rheumatoid arthritis
Medical condition associated with anterior uveitis
Ankylosing spondylitis
IBD
Reactive arthritis
