What are the 4 components of the Operations Process?
Planning, preparation, execution, assessment
What is a running estimate?
- a continuous assessment of the current situation
- used to determine if the current operation is proceeding according to the commander’s intent and if planned future operations are supportable
What is the commanders role in the Operations Process?
The commander drives the operations process by understanding, visualizing, describing, directing, leading, and assessing operations.
What is an operational enviornment?
A composite of the conditions, circumstances, and influences that affect the employment of capabilities and bear on the decisions of the commander
What are some factors included in the OE? (Not the Operational Variables)
air, land, maritime, space, and cyberspace domains; the information environment; the electromagnetic spectrum
What are the Troop Leading Procedures? List the steps.
TLP is a dynamic process used by small unit leaders to analyze a mission, plan, and prepare for an operation.
1-Recieve the mission 2-Issue a WARNO 3-Develop a tentative plan 4- initiate movement 5- conduct recon 6- Complete the plan 7- Issue the Order 8- Supervise and Refine the Plan
What is an integrating process?
A set series of steps that incorporate multiple disciplines to achieve a specific end (example: MDMP)
What are the key components of a plan?
Mission Statement, Commander’s Intent, Concept of Operations
What is the difference between the Mission Statement and the Commander’s Intent?
The Mission Statement is the “5Ws” of a mission, the Commander’s intent is a succinct description of what constitutes success in an operation without restating the “why” of the mission statement.
What are Nested Concepts?
Nested concepts is a planning technique to achieve unity of purpose whereby each succeeding echelon’s concept of operations is aligned by purpose with the higher echelons’ concept of operations.
