What is a declination diagram?
Representation of the angular relationship of true north, grid north, and magnetic north
How are the multiple bar scales on a map different from each other?
different units of measure
Where is the legend of a map located?
lower left margin
What are the colors on a military map and what do they represent?
Black - cultural features such as buildings or roads
Red/Brown - elevation and cultural features on a red-light map
Green - vegetation
Blue - water
Red - cultural features such as populated areas and road
How do you read a map to determine a grid?
right and up
What kind of grid will get you within 10 meters? 100 meters?
8 digit, 6 digit
What is an azimuth?
a horizontal angle measured clockwise from a north base line; used to express direction
what is the GM angle?
The angular difference bettered grid north and magnetic north
What are the 2 methods of intersection?
map and compass method, straightedge method
What are three methods used to determine your position on a map?
Section, resection, modified resection
What does a contour line represent?
An imaginary line on the ground indicating change in elevation
