What is the primary objective of the ABCP?
to ensure all Soldiers achieve and maintain optimal well-being and performance under all conditions
What are the secondary objectives of the ABCP?
- maintaining readiness, fitness, health, and military appearance
- establish body fat standards
- provide procedures by which personnel are counseled to assist in meeting those standards
Who does adherence to the ABCP benefit?
the individual soldier, the unit, the Army

Who can grant authority for exceptions to ABCP?

How does an MFT support the ABCP?
- Prescribe proper exercise and fitness techniques
- assist commander in developing a physical training program
- provide training on body fat standards
What is a resource that can be used to support the ABCP in the absence of a unit MFT?
Army Wellness Center
What happens if a soldier simply does not present a professional military appearance, regardless of whether he or she exceeds the prescribed screening weight?
The Commander can direct that a body fat assessment be performed
Who is exempt from AR 600-9?
Soldiers with limb loss, soldiers on established continued on active duty and/or continued on active Reserve status, pregnant or postpartum Soldiers, Soldiers who have been hospitalized for 30 days or more, new recruits
How long to new recruits have to achieve compliance the ABCP?
6 months
Why are the APFT and weigh in conducted at least 7 days apart?
to ensure that the weigh in does not interfere with the soldier’s performance on the APFT
When does enrollment in the ABCP begin?
On the day that a Soldier is notified by the Commander that he/she has been enrolled
Where can Body Fat Percentages be recorded/tracked?
DA 5500, DA 5501, DA 705, or on a centralized roster
