We have established that a hypothesis is a statement of what the researcher believes to be true - more precisely it is also something else what is it?
It is a testable statement about the world
What does testable mean?
The aim of the research is to test explanations… we need to decide how to conduct a test by working out how to represents the IV and the DV
What are the four steps of the process of science?
Psychologist observes human behaviour
psychologist provides an explanation for this behaviour
psychologist produces a testable hypothesis in order to test whether the explanation is true
psychologist conducts the study
What did Ridley Stroop Try to do
Ridly Stroop sought to investigate the effects of interference on performance speed. In order to turn the aim into an experiment he needed to operationalise the variables. IV is interference and the DV is performance speed.
What is a research prediction?
A research prediction is about samples of participants – it predicts what we expect to find in the study
