Operating Philosophy Flashcards
What is the basic prioritization of CRM?
Aviate, navigate, and communicate
Who is ultimately responsible for the flight under their command?
The captain.
What does COMMAND mean in the context of a flight?
Legally mandated responsibility, authority, and accountability of the PIC (Pilot in Command).
Q: If two captains are assigned to a flight, who assumes command?
One captain is designated as the PIC and assumes command of the flight.
Who is the primary contact for the flight deck when there is communication?
A: The Forward Flight Attendant (FWD FA).
What is the chain of command authority in the cabin?
PIC, FO, FWD FA, AFT FA.
Who has primary communication with the flight deck?
The Forward Flight Attendant (FWD FA).
Who oversees all duties in the cabin?
The Forward Flight Attendant (FWD FA).
Who provides the PIN and passenger count to the PIC?
The AFT Flight Attendant (AFT FA).
RELEASE STERILE FLIGHT DECK:
how to let FA know
o Climbing through 10,000 ft (or reaching cruise altitude when below 10,000 ft):
o AURAL / VISUAL SIGNAL REMARKS
o TWO HI CHIMES Indicates sterile flight deck is no longer in effect after takeoff.
When does the sterile flight deck take effect during descent?
Descent through 18,000 ft.
What does the sterile flight deck indicate for arrival?
approximately 15 minutes from landing.
What should Flight Attendants (FAs) do when the sterile flight deck is in effect for arrival?
Conclude all nonessential safety duties, perform final cabin walk-through (when no turbulence), and take jumpseat.
What happens when the FA or Pilot pushes the EMERGE button?
They have to respond (each side).
What does the FA do to indicate an evacuation is underway?
The FA will turn on the emergency lights.
Who answers the interphone immediately during an emergency?
The flight deck crewmember not flying.
Topics are listed according to the acronym ICE:
1) required documents, are fit for duty)
2) Communication –
* suspicious activity or a breach of security, the FA uses plain English without code words or phrases, using their full name
* 4 knocks
3) Entry Protocol –
* Pilot Out Of Flight Deck/Flight Attendant Access To Flight Deck Protocol)
ALL FLIGHTS
The All Flights topics are briefed for each flight leg, always focusing on anticipated threats.
- MX items (Review MEL / CDL / NEF, as appropriate, for operations/performance procedures and limitations)
- Taxi time/de-ice/ground delay potential
- Weather (departure, enroute, turbulence, destination)
- Flight time and cruise altitude
- Diversion potential
- Customer service items
- FAM / LEO / FFDO
- Jumpseat / ACM briefing
- Unfamiliar airports/airport specific procedures
Who must initiate the exchange of flight controls?
The captain.
When do normal exchanges of flight controls occur?
When aligned with the runway centerline prior to commencing the takeoff.
During the landing roll, as dictated by the captain.
During pilot out of flight deck protocol.
When in flight, the exchange must include aircraft flight status of heading, altitude, and speed. Example:
“YOUR CONTROLS, HEADING ONE TWO ZERO, LEVEL THREE SIX ZERO, SPEED POINT SEVEN EIGHT.”
