there is debate over whether this is the oldest bar in glasgow

• the name is our only reminder that that the old campus of Glasgow University used to stand here from 1451 to 1870 (that’s four centuries!)
• the old buildings were used for another century by the railways, until they were destroyed in 1968 - a controversial decision at the time
