Q

John Knox

A
  • in the time of John Knox (founder of the presbyterian church) Scotland was governed by the Stewart Dynasty and was a Catholic Country.
  • Knox blamed the economic grievances amongst the poor upon those who had political power to change the situation, most notable Marie de Guise, Regent of Scotland and her daughter, Mary Stewart or … Mary Queen of Scots
  • the political grievances of Knox’s against those in charge and his ambition to reform the National Church of Scotland saw a fight to establish the Reformed Protestant Church leading to a Protestant Reformation which would alter the governance and belief system in Scotland.
  • protestant mobs, under Knox’s instruction, stripped the altars, smashes iconography, destroyed relics and whitewashed the walls of many of Scotland’s churches overnight.
