A
  1. Paleo-Indian hunter and gatherer populations, came from ice age.
  2. Woodland cultures after the climate warmed, includes the Adena and Hopewell groups.
  3. Fort Ancient people, who were even less nomadic and even more reliant on agriculture than the Woodland cultures. For unknown reasons, the Fort Ancient people disappeared from the area by 1650 and were eventually replaced by tribes that arrived from other areas.
  4. The Shawnee, Seneca-Cayuga, Lenape, Wyandot, Myaamia, and Ottawa tribes were the main Native American tribes that lived in Ohio
21
Q

Tecumseh

A

The largest of the six main tribes in the area was the Shawnee, the tribe of Tecumseh.

Tecumseh worked with his brother to create an alliance across tribes against white settlers. The movement to form a confederacy disintegrated following the attack and defeat of the Prophetstown settlement by American soldiers while Tecumseh was away.

Tecumseh went on to fight alongside the British in the War of 1812 and was killed in the Battle of the Thames.
