Criteria for activation of the massive transfusion protocol?

Answer 1

• Haemorrhage is expected to be massive (anticipated need to replace 50% of blood volume or more within 2 hours)
• Heart rate >120bpm in the presence of uncontrolled bleeding
• Estimated blood loss more than 2 litres in the presence of ongoing bleeding
• Bleeding continues after transfusion of 4units of packed red blood cells in 1-2 hours
