Why did the Bolsheviks launch a revolution in October?

A

Lenin returned to Petrograd on the 7th October.
10th October he persuaded the Bolsheviks leaders that it was time for an uprising.
23rd October Kerensky tried to stop them meaning they had to act in October 1917.

What happened during the revolution?

A

On the 24th October 1917, orders were given for Bolsheviks to occupy railways stations, telephone exchanges and banks.
Red Guard invaded Winter Palace 25th
26th October All Russian Congress of Soviets gave power to the Soviets.

Why were the Bolsheviks successful?

A

340,000 men in the Petrograd Garrison stood idly by.

Only Bolsheviks said they would end the war (April Theses)

What Role did Trotsky play in the Revolution?

A

In October 1917 he became leader of the MRC. MRC controlled 20,000 Red Guard, 60,000 Baltic Sailors and 15,000 soldiers of the Petrograd Garrison

He created and supplied the Red Guard through German money.

A

Decree on Land- 340 million acres of land was taken of from the Tsar and given to peasants.
Signed the Treaty of Brest Litovsk
Russia lost 25% of its population, 25% of its iron and wheat, 300 million roubles
