Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
A: Presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both. Obsessions are defined by (1) or (2):
1. Recurrent & persistent thoughts, urges or images that are experienced, at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive & unwanted and that in most individuals causes marked anxiety or distress
2. The individual attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, urges or images or to neutralize them w/ some other thought or action (by performing a compulsion)
Compulsions are define by (1) & (2):
1. Repetitive behaviors that the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules that must be applied rigidly
2. The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing anxiety, distress of preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts are not connected in a realistic way w/ what they are designed to neutralize or prevent are clearly excessive
B: The obsessions or compulsions are time-consuming or cause significant distress or impairment
C: The obsessive-compulsive sx are not due to effects of a substance
D: The disturbance is not better explained by sx of another mental disorder
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
A: Preoccupation w/ one or more perceived defects or flaw in physical appearance that are not observable or appear slight to others
B: At some point during the course of the disorder, the individual has performed repetitive behaviors(mirror checking, excessive grooming, etc)
C: The preoccupation causes significant distress or impairment
D: The appearance preoccupation not better explained by concerns w/ body fat or weight in an individual whose sx meet diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder
Specify IF: w/ muscle dysmorphia-individual is preoccupied w/ the idea that their body build is too small
Hoarding Disorder
A: Persistent difficulty discarding or parting w/ possessions, regardless of their actual value
B: This difficulty is due to perceived need to save the item & distress associated w/ discarding them
C: The difficulty discarding possessions results in the accumulation of possessions that congest and clutter active living areas & compromises their intended use
D: The hoarding causes significant distress or impairment
E: Not due to another medical condition
F: Hoarding is not better explained by the sx of another mental disorder
Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder)
A: Recurrent pulling out of one’s hair, resulting in hair loss
B: Repeated attempts to decrease or stop hair pulling
C: The hair pulling causes significant distress or impairment
D: The hair pulling or hair loss not due to another medical condition
E: Not better explained by another mental disorder
Excoriation (Skin-Picking) Disorder
A: Recurrent skin picking resulting in skin lesions
B: Repeated attempts to decrease or stop picking skin
C: Skin picking cause significant distress or impairment
D: The skin picking is not due to effects of substance
E: Not better explained by another mental disorder

Other Specified Obsessive-Compulsive & Related Disorder
Examples of presentations that can be specified using the “other specified” designation include the following:
Body Dysmorphic -like disorder w/ actual flaw: The defects or flaws in physical appearance are clearly observable by others. The preoccupation w/ these flaws is clearly excessive & causes significant impairment or distress
Body dysmorphic-like disorder w/o repetitive behaviors: presentations that meet dysmorphic disorder except that individual has not performed repetitive behaviors or mental acts in response to the appearance concerns
Body-focused repetitive behavior disorder: characterized by recurrent body-focused repetitive behaviors (nail-biting, lip biting, cheek chewing) & repeated attempts to decrease or stop the behaviors. Sx cause clinically significant distress or impairment
Obsessional Jealousy: Characterized by non-delusional preoccupation w/ a partner’s perceived infidelity. The preoccupations may lead to repetitive behaviors or mental acts in response to the infidelity concerns; they cause significant distress or impairment
Shubo-kyofu: A varient of “taijin kyousho” that’s similar to body dysmorphic disorder & is characterized by excessive fear of having a bodily deformity
Koro: related to “dhat syndrome” an episode of suddne & intense anxiety that the penis or vulva or nipples in females will recede into the body, possibly leading to death
Jikoshu-kyofu: A variant of “taijin kyofusho’ characterized by fear of having an offensive body order
Unspecified Obsessive-Compulsive & Related Disorder
Sx cause significant distress or impairment but do not meet full criteria and clinician choose NOT to specify the reason
