ADHD-Criteria A
Persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes w/ functioning or development, characterized by 1 and/or 2
ADHD-Criteria A (1)
- Inattention: 6 or more of the following sx have persisted for at least 6mos to a degree that is inconsistent w/ developmental level & that negatively impacts directly in social & academic/occupational activities:
(sx are not solely due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand) 17 and older at least 5 sx are required
ADHD: Criteria A (1) Sx
A. Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes
B. Has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
C. Does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
D. Does not follow through on instructions & fails to finish schoolwork, chores or duties in workplace
E. Has difficulty organizing tasks & activities
F. Avoids dislikes or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort
G. Loses things necessary for tasks or activities
H. Easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
I. Forgetful in daily activities
ADHD Criteria A (2)
Hyperactivity and Impulsivity: 6 or more of the following sx have persisted for at least 6 mos to a degree that is inconsistent w/ developmental & negatively impacts social & academic/occupational activities. age 17 and older 5 sx
ADHD Criteria A (2) Sx
A: Fidgets w/ or taps hands, feet or squirms
B: Leaves seat in situations when remaining seated is expected
C: Runs about or climbs in situations where it’s inappropriate
D: Unable to play or engage in leisure activities quietly
E: Often “on the go” acting as if “driven by a motor”
F: Talks excessively
G: Often blurts out an answer before a question has been completed
H: Often has difficulty waiting their turn
I: Often interrupts or intrudes on other
ADHD Criteria B
Several inattentive or hyperactive-impulsive sx prior to 12 years of age
ADHD Criteria C
Several inattentive or hyperactive-impulsive are present in two or more settings
ADHD Criteria D
There’s clear evidence that the sx interfere with or reduce the quality of social, academic or occupational functioning
ADHD Criteria E
Sx don’t occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder & not explained by another mental disorder
ADHD: Specify whether
Combined Presentation: Both Criterion A1 and A2 are met for the past 6 mos
Predominantly inattentive presentation: If Criterion A1 is met but Criterion A2 is not met for the past 6 mos
Predominantly Hyperactive/impulsive presentation: If Criterion A2 is met and Criterion A1 is not met for the past 6 mos
ADHD: Specify If
In partial remission: when full criteria was previously met, fewer than the full criteria have been met for the past 6 mos and the sx still result in impairment
ADHD: Specify current severity
Mild: few, if any, sx in excess of those required are present & result in minor impairments
Moderate: Sx or functional impairment between mild & severe are present
Severe: Many sx in excess of those required, or several sx that are particularly sever, are present or the sx resulted in marked impairment in social or occupational functioning
Other Specified ADHD
Applies to presentation in which sx characteristics of ADHD causes distress or impairment, but do not meet the full criteria. Used in situations in which the clinician chooses to communicate the reason the presentation does not meet the criteria
Unspecified ADHD
Applies to presentation in which sx characteristics of ADHD causes distress or impairment, but do not meet the full criteria. Used in situations in which the clinician chooses NOT to communicate the reason the presentation does not meet the criteria
