15
Q

What’s a controlled observation?

A

Watching behaviour in a structured environment

16
Q

Advantages of controlled observation?

A

easier to replicate due controlled variables

17
Q

Disadvantages of controlled observations?

A

Unnatural environment, low ecological validity

18
Q

What’s a covert observation?

A

Observers aren’t visible and participants aren’t aware behaviour is being observer

19
Q

Advantages of covert observation?

A

Behaviour more nature

20
Q

Disadvantages of covert observation?

A

Less ethical, cant give informed consent

21
Q

What’s overt observation?

A

Participants are aware behaviours being recorded

22
Q

Advantages of overt observation?

A

Ethical,participants can give informed consent

23
Q

Disadvantages of overt observation?

A

Social desirability

24
Q

Whats time sampling?

A

Designing behaviour category’s (6 max) and deciding a time schedule of when behaviours recorded e.g. every 2 minutes

25
Q

Advantages of time sampling?

A

Reduces number of observations made

26
Q

Disadvantages of time sampling?

A

Unrepresentative of observation as something may occur when not being observed

27
Q

What’s event sampling?

A

Behaviour is categorised and or coded in frame work, everytime you see something that represents behaviour category or coding scheme

28
Q

Advantages of event sampling?

A

Useful behaviour happens frequently which would be missed if we used time sampling

29
Q

Disadvantages of event sampling?

A

If too many observations occur at the same time it can be difficult to record everything
