Observational Learning Flashcards
what is observational learning?
when an organism responding is influenced by the observation of other’s behaviour
what is the evolutionary reasons for observational learning?
easy to learn by copying, generally harmless if others are doing it too
which group did the best and worst in the piercing through half piece of paper experiment?
no model and blind imitation did the worst, local enhancement did second best but observational learning did the best by a lot
which group, DOL or DLE did best in the second trial?
DOL
with the flower monkey experiment what was proven?
natural instinct overrides as no fear of flowers was acquired but fear of snakes was via observational learning AND instinct
what are the four key processes of observational learning?
attention, retention, production (ability to actually perform the actions we observe), motivation (need to perform actions we witness)
what are the five factors of selecting a model for observational learning successfully?
- similarity to the observer.
- models competence at the skill
- models prestige
- observers previous experience with model
- multiple models - more influence
