what is an ideal pt for total knee replacement?
older, fit, end stage OA, symptomatic
predictors of poor outcome in TKR?
obese, young, chronic pain syndrome, depression/anxiety, very active lifestyle
complications of TKR?
deep tissue infection, pain and stiffness due to arthrofibrosis, instability, early failure, medical complications
what is osteotmomy?
realignment of joint to redistribute forces
who would you offer and osteotomy to?
a pt who wouldn’t benefit from prosthesis
3 things to consider with total hip replacement surgery?
centre of rotation, leg length, canal width
what are the types of prosthesis offered for THR?
cemented/ uncemented/ poly
T/F: cemented prosthesis is used for young pt
F: cemented for elderly, cemented stem & uncemented cup for young
what is reverse polarity shoulder replacement?
reverse ball and socket- prevents upward migration of humeral head
