- mild to mod pain
- dysmenorrhea
- arthritis inflammation
- acute gout

- block prostaglandin synthesis
- anti inflammatory!!!

A
- CABG surgery
- GI problems (PVD)
- renal impairment

Adverse effects (GI and GU)
A
- dyspepsia/heartburn
- epigastric pain
- nausea
- GI ulceration**
- increased risk of thrombotic events**
- nephrotoxicity**

Nursing implications
A
- give food and water
- increase fluids**
- reports s/s of GI bleed (vomit and poop)
- dilute if IV
- do not exceed 3200mg daily

Other names
A
- ibuprofen
- meloxicam (safety*, drowsy and dizzy)
- ketorolac (short term of 5 days*, severe bleeding, nephrotoxicity)
- selective cox 2 inhibitor: increased risk of MI and stroke
