A

Believed they had been dishonoured - traditional role lost in government
Links with Norfolk’s conspiracy (Westmoreland’s brother-in-law)

What was the outfall??

A

Lack of organisation and leadership led to downfall of the rebels
Decisive action from the crown (Cecil)
Highlighted lack of direct control Elizabethan government had on the North
Showed apathy for Elizabeth
No support for her
But no confidence about an alternative monarch
Northumberland executed in 1572 (rebel land seized by crown)
