What were the Missoula Floods?
Outburst of glacial lake that flooded Eastern Washington down into Oregon.
The deposits left by the Missoula Flood are deep, well-draining and relatively low in nutrients, the perfect terroir for growing grapes. The Flood in essence laid the foundation for the soils that make up Eastern Washington & Willamette Valley’s unique terroir.
Formed “The Rocks” region of Walla Walla AVA which has particularly good Syrah. Left behind stones similar to galets in Cheateauneuf-du-Pape.
