Q

What is the Van Duzer cooridor?

A

Willamette Valley

An anomaly in the Coastal Range through which oceanic winds funnel into the Valley, creating a cooling effect.

Dries out the vine canopy and decreases fungus pressure, supporting sustainable practices by drastically reducing the need for fungus spray.

As a phenomenon of wind protection, the grape skins thicken, leading to an abundance of anthocyanins (color) and tannin.

What were the Missoula Floods?

A

Outburst of glacial lake that flooded Eastern Washington down into Oregon.

The deposits left by the Missoula Flood are deep, well-draining and relatively low in nutrients, the perfect terroir for growing grapes. The Flood in essence laid the foundation for the soils that make up Eastern Washington & Willamette Valley’s unique terroir.

Formed “The Rocks” region of Walla Walla AVA which has particularly good Syrah. Left behind stones similar to galets in Cheateauneuf-du-Pape.
