New equipment, procedures, and techniques Flashcards
If told to hold while midway through a holding-pattern course reversal prior to an instrument approach… how do you suspend auto-sequencing of your flight plan and remain in the hold?
Re: the G1000NXi, would hit “suspend” after entering the hold point. The magenta line should shift to a hold pattern in lieu of a sequence to next way point pattern. (It willl “suspend” the approach.)
What actions are needed to establish a constant-airspeed climb using the flight director of the G1000?
FLC Sandwich:
1. set altitude
2. hit FLC
3. adjust speed to desired speed
*note: the FD (and AP if applicable) will “grab” the current deck angle
What phraseology should be used if an uncommanded torque increase is observed?
“runaway Tq!”
Describe best practices upon encountering a laser strike.
- give control to other pilot
- increase light in cockpit
- notify ATC w/ approx location
When is the appropriate time to activate an approach on the G1000?
Upon hearing the words:
“You are cleared for the approach.”
What is the meaning of an annunciation in white text appearing in the lateral or vertical mode boxes of the AFCS scorecard on the PFD?
when the white text appears it indicates that a mode is “armed” - example:
1. GP / GS
2. ALT
3. LOC (whilst in heading mode)
What is the meaning of an annunciation in green text appearing in the lateral or vertical mode boxes of the AFCS scorecard on the PFD?
It indicates “capture”, for example:
1. ALT white (armed to capture).
2. Flashing reverse video green (capturing).
3. Solid green ALT? Altitude is captured.
What types of approaches call for the APR button vs. the NAV button for appropriate autopilot guidance?
- APR button is for precision approaches
- NAV button is for approaches that don’t have a DA (LNAV/VNAV, VOR, VOR-DME, etc.).
When is the appropriate time to press the APR button when performing an approach with vertical guidance?
- when you hear the magic words (“N901LM you are cleared.. .”)
- before you intercept the “chicken lips”
How does a pilot resume auto-sequencing of a flight plan after reaching the missed approach point of an approach?
when you his the suspend button you are “unsuspending” it and allowing the G1000NXi to continue on the next sequenced leg
How does a pilot turn off Electronic Stability Protection?
via a setting in the G1000’s in the aux page
What protective features are included in the G1000’s Electronic Stability Protection?
- limits bank to 30 degrees
- overspeed warning
- minimum underspeed warning
What additional protective features are included in the OEI-ESP system (One Engine Inoperative Electronic Stability Protection)?
During OEI ops it tilts bank into good engine.
What happens while pressing the CWS (Control Wheel Steering) button?
Momentarily the AP is no longer following FD so long as you are holding down the CWS button.
