neuroradiology of deep brain structures Flashcards
1
Q
what makes up the Lenticular nucleus
A
Putamen & globus pallidus
2
Q
what makes up the striatum
A
caudate nucleus & putamen
3
Q
what makes up the corpus striatum
A
caudate nucleus, putamen & globus pallidus
4
Q
fMRI
A
- BOLD contrast – reflects blood flow changes secondary to neuronal change
- simple or complex tasks compared with rest state
- statistical analysis shows ‘activation’
- can be used in-operative
5
Q
hazards of MRI
A
- projectile effect – magnetic force can pull objects towards the scanner at high speeds
- heating – radiofrequency waves used in MR imaging heat up tissue and metal
- implants – can malfunction, can feel magnetic force – twist and move
6
Q
physiological effects of MRI
A
- peripheral nerve stimulation
- rapid head motion: vertigo, nausea , metallic taste
- loud noise
