introduction to neuroradiology Flashcards
1
Q
limitations of a CT scan
A
- Dose of radiation (1 CT head = 100 chest x-rays)
- Limited anatomical detail – axial plane but now volume data
- Requires iodinated contrast media – potential for allergic reaction
2
Q
strengths of a CT scan
A
- Better that MRI for demonstrating bone & calcification
* Quicker scan times than MRI
3
Q
limitations of an MRI scan
A
- Contrast injection may be required
- Strong magnetic field – in some patients MRI is contraindicated
- Noisy & claustrophobic
- Longer scan times than CT
4
Q
Strengths of an MRI scan
A
- No ionising radiation
- Multiple planes possible
- Excellent anatomical detail
