neurogenic shock Flashcards
1
Q
what is neurogenic shock?
A
- hypoperfusion
- impact on area of brain that regulates blood vessels= loss of sympathetic control of vessels
- loss of tonicity of the vessels
- damage is systemic thru CNS
2
Q
etiology of neurogenic shock
A
CNS trauma
- hypoglycemia
- hypoxia
- general anesthetic: can affect brain and impact vasomotor control center—> vasodilation —> NG shock
3
Q
patho of neurogenic shock
A
vasomotor control defect—> sympathetic output impaired —-> loss of vessel tone —-> vasodilation —> hypoperfusion
NO change in blood volume
4
Q
manifestations of neurogenic shock?
A
hypotension
- BRADYCARDIA bc SNS cannot increase the HR
- DRY, WARM skin, SNS cannot perspirate
5
Q
treatment of neurogenic shock?
A
- life preservation—> restore SNS control
- symptomatic management: for hypoxia and hypoglycemic etc
- IV fluids (hypertonic to increase bv and BP)
- ADH (prevent diuresis, retain water, increase BP)
- positive inotrope (increase workload of heart)
