Neurodevelopmental Disorders Flashcards
Intellectual Disability (Intellectual Developmental Disorder)
Onset during the developmental period that includes both intellectual and adaptive functioning deficits in conceptual, social, and practical domains.
Degree of Severity
Mild: IQ score: 50-55 to 70 (DSM-IV-TR), Can learn
Degree of Severity
Moderate: IQ score: 35-40 to 50-55 (DSM-IV-TR), Trainable
Degree of Severity
Severe: IQ score: 20-15 to 35-40 (DSM-IV-TR), May learn and talk
Degree of Severity
Profound: IQ score: below 20 (DSM-IV-TR), Considerable impairment
Language Disorder
Persistent difficulties in the acquisition and use of language across modalities due to deficits in comprehension or production that include: reduced vocabulary, limited sentence structure, and impairments in discourse.
Speech Sound Disorder
Persistent difficulty with speech sound production that interferes with speech intelligibility or prevents verbal communication of messages.
Childhood-onset Fluency Disorder (Stuttering)
Disturbances in the normal fluency and time patterning of speech that are inappropriate for the individuals age and language skills that persist over time.
Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder
Persistent difficulties in the social use of verbal and nonverbal communication.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Persistent difficulties in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts.
Severity Level
Level 1: Requiring support
Severity Level
Level 2: Requiring substantial support
Severity Level
Level 3: Requiring very substantial support
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
A persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.
Specific Learning Disorder
Difficulties learning and using academic skills with persistent symptoms for at least 6 months.
Developmental Coordination Disorder
The acquisition and execution of coordinated motor skills is substantially below that expected given the individual’s chronological age and opportunity for skill learning and use.
Stereotypic Movement Disorder
Repetitively, seemingly driven, and apparently purposeless motor behavior.
Tourette’s Disorder
Multiple motor and one or more vocal tics have been present at some time during the illness. The tics may wax and wane in frequency but have persisted for more than 1 year since first tic onset. Onset is before age 18 years.
Persistant (Chronic) Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder
Single or multiple motor or vocal tics have been present during illness, but not both motor or vocal tics. The tics may wax and wane in frequency but have persisted for more than 1 year since first tic onset. Onset is before age 18 years.
Provisional Tic Disorder
Single or multiple motor and/or vocal tics. The tics have been present for less than 1 year since the first tic onset. Onset is before age 18 years.
